Black Pepper Tofu

Recipe

Preparation time - 10 minutes

Cooking time - 10 minutes

Serves - 1-2

Ingredients

1 block extra-firm Tofu

2 tbsp Cornstarch

3 tbsp Neutral oil

5 tbsp Soy sauce

1 tbsp Sugar

1 tbsp Black pepper (freshly cracked)

½ tsp grated Ginger

4 Garlic cloves

1 small Onion

1 Birds eye chilli

¼ cup Spring onion greens

Method

  1. Press excess moisture out of the tofu using either paper towels or a kitchen towel.

  2. Slice the tofu into cubes and place in a large bowl. Toss with cornstarch until it is well coated.

  3. Combine soy sauce, sugar, black pepper, and ginger in a small bowl, stir and set aside.

  4. Heat 2 tbsp of the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

  5. Add tofu and cook for 8-10 minutes, until golden-brown and crisp. Set the tofu aside.

  6. In the same pan add the remaining oil along with garlic, onion and chilli and cook for 2 minutes until aromatic.

  7. Add the tofu back to pan, along with black pepper sauce and green onions. cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce fully coats tofu.

  8. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and serve.
