Instant Whole Wheat Loaf
An easy no yeast bread (also known as an “Irish soda bread”) , that you can whip up with ingredients readily available in your kitchen!

Preparation time - 5 minutes
Cooking time - 20 minutes
Baking time - 45 minutes
Ingredients
2 tbsp Vinegar
2 cups Whole Milk
2 cups Whole wheat flour
2 cups All Purpose flour
1 tsp Baking soda
1.5 tbsp Sugar
1/4 cup Melted salted butter
Method
In a bowl, add the milk and vinegar. Mix it well and let it rest so it can curdle.
In a large bowl, sift the whole wheat flour and all purpose flour. Whisk in the baking soda and the sugar.
Add in the milk and vinegar mix in the flour mix and combine. Gradually add in the melted butter and mix till everything comes together.
Once the dough comes together, dust your table top with flour and move the dough to the dusted counter. Shape your dough and place it in a baking tray.
Bake your bread in a preheated oven at 220°C, for 20 minutes and then on 200°C for another 25 minutes.
Cool completely, cut and enjoy!
Chef’s tips
Brush the dough with milk before baking to get a crustier, browner bread.
The loaf is dense, but soft so don’t be worried if it feels dense when baked.
It’s important to use both AP flour and whole wheat flour, as the bread is already quite dense.
Make sure NOT TO OVER MIX the dough.
Let the milk and vinegar rest for at least 15 minutes so it curdles well.
