Rajma Chawal

Recipe

Preparation time - 10 minutes

Cooking time - 45 minutes

Serves - 1-2

Ingredients

1 cup Rajma (soaked overnight and boiled)

(Keep the water you boiled the rajma in)

2 tbsp Vegetable oil

1 tbsp Mustard oil

1 tsp Cumin seeds / 3/4 tsp ground Cumin

1 Bay leaf

1 Onion (diced)

3 Green chillies

3 cloves Garlic

1 inch Ginger

1 tsp Turmeric powder

1 tsp Coriander powder

1 tbsp Red chilli powder

2 small Tomatoes (blanched and puréed)

3 dried Red chillis (rehydrated and puréed)

1 tsp Garam masala

1 tbsp Ghee

Method

  1. In a pan add the oils, bay leaf and cumin and allow it to pop.

  2. Blend the onions, green chillis and garlic, and add it to the oil.

  3. Add the spices to the above mixture and cook until the raw smell is gone.

  4. Add the rajma and puréed tomatoes and chillis into the mixture.

  5. Cover the pan and allow to cook for at least 15 minutes.

  6. Once you can’t smell the tomatoes anymore, add 1 tsp of Garam masala and 1 tbsp of Ghee.

  7. Taste and adjust the seasoning.

  8. Serve with rice and onions.
